Looking for JAUPT (DVSA)-approved Driver CPC training? Complete your 35-hour periodic training online from home. Traxion Training — one of the UK’s most established providers since 2014, with 850+ verified 5-star Google reviews.

What Is Driver CPC?

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is a legal requirement for all professional LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) and PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) drivers in the UK. Introduced to maintain high standards of road safety, the Driver CPC ensures professional drivers keep their skills, knowledge, and awareness up to date throughout their careers.

Whether you drive an HGV, lorry, van, bus, or coach professionally, you must hold a valid Driver CPC card (also known as a DQC — Driver Qualification Card) to operate legally. Failure to complete your 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years can result in you not being able to drive commercially.

Who Needs Driver CPC Training?

  • HGV/LGV drivers — anyone driving goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes professionally
  • Drivers with grandfather rights — enabling you to use your acquired 7.5-tonne licence commercially
  • Bus and coach drivers — PCV drivers carrying passengers professionally
  • Owner-operators — self-employed drivers who own and operate their own vehicles
  • Fleet drivers — employed drivers working for logistics, distribution, and transport companies
  • Returning drivers — those returning to professional driving after a break

Our courses are suitable for both HGV CPC and PCV CPC — the same 35-hour requirement applies to both.

The 35-Hour Periodic Training Requirement

Every professional driver must complete 35 hours of periodic Driver CPC training every 5 years. You can spread these hours across the full 5-year period or complete them in a single week — the choice is yours.

What you need to know:

  • 5 days × 7 hours = 35 hours — attend Monday to Friday with 5 unique modules, zero repetition
  • No test at the end — Driver CPC periodic training is training, not an exam. There are no written or practical tests to pass.
  • All 5 courses are unique to Traxion — you won’t repeat content even if you’ve done CPC elsewhere
  • Same-day DVSA upload — all courses are accredited by DVSA, and all training hours are uploaded on the same day you attend
  • International CPC accredited — valid for UK and EU driving

If you’ve been away from professional driving and need to get back on the road, our Return to Driving course covers the latest regulations, safety updates, and industry changes. Available as a single-day course starting at £60 — perfect for refreshing your knowledge and getting back up to speed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book my Driver CPC training?

View all available dates on our 35-hour course page and pick the dates that work for you. You’ll receive full joining instructions by email after booking. If you prefer, call us on 01772 915471 and we can help you book over the phone.

What happens after I complete a course?

We register your training with DVSA on the same day you attend. DVSA then updates your Driver Qualification Card (DQC) record. You’ll also receive a certificate by email as proof of attendance.

Do I need to pass a test?

No. Driver CPC periodic training is exactly that — training. There are no written exams, practical tests, or assessments to pass. You simply attend and participate.

Can I complete all 35 hours in one week?

Yes. Our five unique modules run Monday to Friday. Attend all five and you’ve completed your full 35-hour requirement for your 5-year cycle. Since each module covers a different topic, there’s no repetition.

Can I train on Saturdays?

Yes — we run Saturday CPC courses online for drivers who work weekdays. Perfect for topping up hours around your work schedule.

Is the training suitable if I’m not good with computers?

Absolutely. We specialise in helping drivers who aren’t confident with technology. If you can click a link and use a camera, you can join. If you’re unsure, just give us a call on 01772 915471 and we’ll walk you through it.

Are your courses suitable for bus and coach drivers too?

Yes. All of our CPC courses are suitable for both HGV CPC and PCV CPC drivers. The 35-hour periodic requirement applies to both categories.

Do you offer on-site classroom training?

We can provide classroom CPC training on-site for companies with suitable facilities. Please get in touch to enquire. We don’t offer public classroom Driver CPC courses due to the affordability and convenience of remote training.

What’s the difference between initial CPC and periodic CPC?

Initial CPC is the qualification new drivers obtain to enter the profession (the Driver CPC initial test). Periodic CPC (also called DCPC) is the ongoing 35 hours of training every 5 years required to maintain your professional status. Our courses cover periodic CPC training only — we are an approved periodic training provider.

What is the Flexi-Pass?

Our Flexi-Pass lets you buy the full 35-hour package without locking in all 5 dates upfront. Choose dates as you go, and change them free of charge if your plans change. It’s the most flexible way to complete your CPC.
